Roger Zelazny had a series of books based on the idea that there were two realities in the Universe, Amber and Chaos. Everything else that stretched between Amber and Chaos was a shadow of one or the other.
Amber is meant to be that one reality, a reality where thought, study and rational discussion help us understand our lives through the lives of people who lived before us…without the study of the past and the people who lived before us, we are left with Chaos, where anything goes….
So welcome to Amber…and I hope you contribute your own thoughts to what is written here…and enjoy the lives I present of those who came before!
I’m looking forward to seeing what will be posted here.
I’ve bookmarked your site – very interesting. I found it while searching for the John Galt speech & I’m reading Ayn Rand’s For the New Intellectual which is so appropriate for our current world situation.
Wow. I’ve go to comment; I came across this page looking for a word count of JG’s speech from the NOVEL “Atlas Shrugged” (1957)
Rand (real name Alice O’Connor, I believe) was a brilliant writer, an enigmatic person, and deserves to be canonized for sentences such as this: “she did not want to think,
but the sound of thought went on like the drone of the motors under the sound of the engine.” and, “As men on a dark prairie liked to see the lighted windows of a train going past, her achievement, the sight of power and purpose that gave them reassurance in the midst of empty miles and night-so she wanted to feel it for a moment, a brief greeting.” Move over Bill Faulkner.
